St. Lawrence Market & Surrounding Area : The St. Lawrence Market stands where the very beginnings of Toronto were established in 1793, in what is today referred to as the “Old Town of York” (corner Front and Jarvis Sts.) The original city market stood one block north (King and Jarvis Sts.), in a structure that also held the city council chambers. However, a fire in 1849 destroyed most of the neighbourhood.

The current market comprises two buildings, one either side of Front St. The south market building dates from 1905, an imposing red brick structure incorporating what remains of the original City Hall. One merely has to stand in front of the main market entrance to see how one building has wrapped itself around the other. In the 1970’s, the former council chambers on the second floor were transformed into a civic art gallery, which presents an on-going photographic exhibit on the development of Toronto.

Chinatown : Chinatown in Toronto is undergoing significant change. New generations of Chinese are moving to the suburbs and are less willing to shop in Chinatown. Others are not interested in lives as shopkeepers as were their parents and grandparents. Sidewalk merchants are being asked to leave the streets. The bilingual signs have always been a landmark in Chinatown. How long will it take for Chinatown to disappear?

Public Tennis Courts : There aren't too many poorly maintained public tennis courts left in Toronto. No lights or backdrops, metal nets, asphalt surfaces full of cracks bring back memories of tennis before the boom of the 1970's. I really love the pegged board where you hang your racquet to reserve a court. That was before the use of chalk and blackboard since replaced by tags.

Outreach Documentary Project : This is a long term project documenting the work of outreach staff and street nurses on the streets of Toronto. The focus is on the interaction between outreach workers/street nurses and the people who spend most of their day on the streets. Some are homeless - others are not. The goal of this project is to help people gain a better understanding of what workers do and how they go about serving the needs of Toronto's marginalized and forgotten.
